SUMMARY:Community Acupuncture at InnerLight Health Spa
DESCRIPTION:
Community acupuncture is a nationwide movement to create access to healing through acupuncture treatments by removing the barrier of cost. During your treatment\, you will be surrounded by other people quietly receiving treatment at the same time. Patients benefit many ways from the community setting. In our busy society\, we often neglect to stop and take time to really relax while surrounded by peers who are also relaxing into healing. This is not a lack of privacy but an opportunity to experience treatment with family\, friends\, and community. As with any intentional group endeavor\, the shared state makes individual treatments more powerful. Here\, the patients create the healing atmosphere as much as the practitioner.

SUMMARY:Reading and Signing at Oblong with Terry Tempest Williams
DESCRIPTION:
On Friday\, May 18th\, at 7\:30pm\, Oblong Books &amp\; Music\, 6422 Montgomery St. (Rt.9)\, Rhinebeck\, will host a reading and signing with Terry Tempest Williams\, author of When Women Were Birds.

Twenty years ago\, Terry Tempest Williams published her iconic book Refuge\, a juxtaposition of natural history and haunting\, personal tragedy. Written just five year after the death of Williams's mother\, Refuge posits the seven deaths of women in her family from cancer (and nine mastectomies)\, all likely the result of exposure to the fallout of atomic bomb tests in the 1950s\, against the flooding of both the Great Salt Lake and a bird refuge. Refuge transformed tragedy into a document of renewal and spiritual grace.

The New Paltz Bon-Odori Festival is a Japanese dance festival combined with a peace movement. It is the Hudson Valley's first attempt to provide an opportunity for the community to enjoy Japanese dance culture\, examine the results of nuclear disaster\, and seek alternative life styles to structure our future. A study group will present \\"from Hiroshima to Fukushima\,\\" and a variety of exhibitors and vendors from the fields of healing\, non-violent communication\, international exchange\, and green businesses will take part. This is the second year Yamamoto and a committee including Livia Vanaver/Vanaver Caravan\, Carol Robins/Unison Arts Center\, Kathy Sheldon/Happy Miso Cooking\, Jerusha Jaeger/Karmaic Designer\, and Michael Gendler/interdisciplinary Student are working on this project. The committee is trying to raise $6\,000 to promote the event. They are expecting more than 2\,000 participants this year.

Taiko master\, Stuart Paton\, has led Burlington Taiko since 1987. The powerful\, spellbinding and propulsive sounds of his group has mesmerized audiences.
