music in a benefit concert for the Tibetan Buddhist Monastery\, Karma Triyana Dharmachakra
(KTD)\, and Family of Woodstock\, a service agency providing food\, shelter\,
advocacy and counseling in Ulster County\, NY.

Take 372 acres of streams\, fields and forests in the foothills of the
Catskills\, add fiddle music\, ecology and gardening workshops\, hikes\, wild
plant walks\, dancing and an open mic coffeehouse and you have THE CATSKILL
MOUNTAIN ECO-HERITAGE FESTIVAL\,
Formerly the Ashokan Field Campus of SUNY New Paltz\, The Ashokan Center is
now an independently run outdoor education and conference and retreat
center with a focus on nature\, history and the arts. THE CATSKILL MOUNTAIN
ECO-HERITAGE FESTIVAL\, our first public event\, is a great way to experience
Ashokan’s pristine fields and forests\, learn more about the natural
history of the Catskills and enjoy some fine music and dancing.
Daytime activities will include a John Burroughs presentation by Jeff
Walker\, a gardening workshop with Cornell Cooperative Extension\, primitive
skills lessons and a variety of interpretive walks including an edible and
medicinal plant walk with E. Barrie Kavasch.
Friday and Saturday evening you can switch from hiking shoes to dancing
shoes while the pavilion along the Esopus Creek rings out with the familiar
sounds of Jay Ungar &\; Molly Mason (Saturday 7pm)\, the Walker Family (Friday
7pm) and others. As the sounds from the pavilion fade into the night you
can attend a showing of Deep Water\, the true story of the Ashokan
Reservoir\, with filmmaker Tobe Carey on Friday and a singer's and
songwriter's open mic coffeehouse on Saturday.

On Sunday August 31st at 3\:00 PM at St. John’s Church\, in Salisbury\, CT\,
there will be a benefit concert\, “Musicians for a Sustainable Bolivia\,”
to help fund a college scholarship program for the children of La Colonia
Ecológica\, an orphanage located in Cochabamba\, Bolivia. La Colonia
Ecológica cares for 150 children\, providing them with the necessary
emotional and educational support to promote healthy development and
self-sufficiency. Many of the adolescents living at La Colonia Ecológica
have shown exceptional academic promise\, but lack the resources to continue
their education beyond high school\; the average cost of four years of
college tuition in Bolivia is $2\,000\, inexpensive by American standards\,
but unattainable for many Bolivians. Profits from Musicians for a
Sustainable Bolivia will contribute to a college scholarship fund to enable
as many children as possible to continue their education after graduating
from high school.
The concert will include lute songs by John Dowland and Thomas Campion\,
arranged for voice and guitar\, Handel arias for voice\, harpsichord and
oboe\, Elizabethan duets for recorder and harpsichord\, solo works for guitar
by Antonio Lauro\, Latin American folk music by the group Sirius Coyote\, a
staged reading by Leslie Elias\, artistic director of Grumbling Gryphons\,
and original world music compositions by Jeff Adler of the Hevreh Ensemble.

Photography Group scheduled on Tuesday\, September 2nd at 6\:30 at the
Palenville Branch of the Catskill Public Library located at 3335 Route
23A. The agenda includes planning the subjects and programs for 2009. This is a great opportunity to put your two cents into the activities for the year to come. An update on the development of the club website will also be presented. The photographic topic for the evening is “Ruined Structures.” Each
