Era of Elegance, Salisbury Association Historical Society, Salisbury Faces, Richard Boyle, Saturday, February 15 at 4:00 p.m.
SALISBURY-- Richard Boyle, former Director of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts presents a lecture describing and discussing the paintings in the Salisbury Association collection. Boyle will focus on a selected group of portraits ranging from the work of highly regarded artists Erastus Salisbury Field, Ammi Phillips, and Ellen Emmet Rand. The paintings span a time period from the early 19th to the early 20th century and will be considered in the context of the tradition of American portrait painting. Boyle will elucidate the historical background of the paintings thus making the history of Salisbury come alive. He was the curator of painting and sculpture at the Cincinnati Art Museum, and Adjunct Professor of art history at Temple University in Philadelphia.
The lecture will take place in the Wardell Room at Scoville Library, as part of the Era of Elegance series presented in conjunction with the Salisbury Association Historical Society.
